Beta 48 Extended Job Manager

Beta 48 Extended Job Manager

Efficient Job Management for any System

In order to provide the data center team with a single point of control and direct access to all systems, a first-rate cross-platform job management solution should provide comprehensive control and monitoring features from the z/OS-System – without requiring users to log on to distributed systems.

Working in tandem, Beta 48 and Beta 92 offer an all round job management system. Through direct communication between Beta 48 and Beta 92, all decentralized job management tasks can now be conducted without tying up JES resources. Jobs are started by the z/OS scheduler via Beta 48. Job output is subsequently checked in Beta 92 and the return code is transferred back to the scheduler by Beta 48. If the job is incomplete, its status can be displayed in Beta 48.

With Beta 48, Beta 92 and an z/OS scheduler you can manage the entire batch production of all systems in your enterprise – All round Job Management.

Event parameter based scheduling
The Beta 48 Extended Triggering Facility (ETF), a functional expansion of the Beta 48 Extended Job Manager, creates a connection from decentralized platforms to the z/OS-based scheduler. The relevant events are determined by means of event parameters. All corresponding events are then transferred via the Beta 48 ETF to the z/OS-based scheduler as soon as they occur.

Supports Special Features of SAP R/3
Beta 48 uses an interface certified for SAP R/3 but offers additional functions that go far beyond the performance of this interface, such as:

  • Provides error checking for every batch input session before next job is started, ensuring that data is loaded correctly
  • Sets additional job parameters (all print parameters, the application server, the job class, etc.) when a job is started in SAP R/3
  • Overwrites variables in an SAP R/3 variant for dynamic control of ABAPs from the host scheduler

Collaborates with OPC
Beta 48 enables optimized collaboration with the OPC scheduler, with Beta 48 defined as a workstation in the OPC:

  • Directly transfers jobs from OPC to Beta 48; doesn’t tie up JES resources
  • Does not require a workstation definition for each target system
  • Lets you add a new target system without restarting OPC
  • Notifies the Beta 48 workstation and switches the system offline in the event of constrained availability of Beta 48 or a target system
  • Automatically activates the workstation when a system is available again
