Geoportal
- Linking evaluated questionnaires with geo coordinates
- Geoportal to help political and business leaders make well-informed decisions
The captured census data will be transferred into a central database, linked to geo coordinates
and imported into a comprehensive geographic information systems (GIS) IT environment. Vast volumes
of data can be processed, involving every single data set from the census into the system. This
information will be enriched with extensive geo data, including the spatial allocation of all
information – a process referred to as geo referencing – as well as the integration into a
nationwide geo infrastructure environment for internal and external use.
The central interface for research, visualization and analysis is a geoportal that makes the
geo-referenced census data available in an intuitive manner according to the user’s access
privileges.
Census data are spatial data in it‘s nature. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) can
collect, store, manage, analyse and reproduce spatial data. GIS link a data value (e.g. census data
sets) to a geographical feature (e.g. enumeration area). GIS technology integrates common database
operations such as query and statistical analysis with the unique visualization and geographic
analysis benefits offered by maps.
